Bank Account in Armenia for Non-Residents in 2026: Documents and Options

Updated October 21, 2026

A foreigner can open an account in Armenia without a social number, but each bank decides which documents to ask for. IDBank reviews a remote application within 72 hours and asks for proof of residence and income. Evocabank opens an account remotely if you own property in Armenia, are a sole proprietor, hold shares in a company or place a deposit.

In short

  • In the public bank terms we reviewed there is no ban on accounts for foreigners, but there is no single document list either: the package is set by the bank.
  • All published terms ask for a passport and proof of source of income.
  • For a simplified remote route banks want a "link" to Armenia: residence permit, property, sole proprietorship or deposit.
  • Bank terms change. The data in this article was checked on official websites on 20.10.2026; some banks do not date their documents.

Documents banks ask for

BankWhat it asks of a foreign individualSource
IDBankNon-resident KYC questionnaire, residence permit or certificate of ownership of housing in Armenia with a certificate of residence at that address, personal income tax certificate (certified contracts for the self-employed), statement from the main bank for 6 months with regular receipts, bilingual employment contract with an Armenian employer (if any)IDBank leaflet
EvocabankPassport, international passport, proof of source of income (previous year's tax return, sale or lease agreement for real property, shares or securities)Evocabank page

A note on IDBank. The leaflet mentions income certificates "for 2021-2022", so the document has not been updated. Before sending your package, ask for the current list at nonresident@idbank.am.

Residence permit, social number and lease

  • Residence permit or property. IDBank explicitly asks for one of the two. For remote opening Evocabank names four categories: owner of real property in Armenia (confirmed by a registration certificate), a client ready to place a deposit, a sole proprietor registered in Armenia, a participant in an Armenian legal entity.
  • Lease agreement. In the published terms of these two banks a lease is not named as a basis. A lease alone is probably not enough, but the decision is the bank's.
  • Social number. The document lists of IDBank and Evocabank do not mention it. More on it: social number and tax number. It is needed for a tax number (or a certificate that you do not have one).
  • Tax residency. Tax on interest and income depends on it, see tax residency.

There are different grounds for a residence permit: grounds for a residence permit.

Remotely or in person

BankHowTime
IDBankPackage in PDF to the bank's e-mail. After approval you book a branch visit in the EarlyOne app. The Idram&IDBank app is installed after openingDecision within 72 hours
EvocabankDocument submission, identity check and account opening without a branch visit, via the mobile app. Document delivery is freeTime not stated on the page

So "fully remote" does not work at IDBank: at least one visit is needed. Evocabank declares opening without a visit, but only for the listed client categories.

At IDBank, after approval you can open accounts and cards (Visa Debit, Mastercard) in drams, dollars, euros and rubles. For large transfers and withdrawals other than deposits and the bank's bonds, a separate agreement with the bank is possible.

Tariffs: what we could verify

We did not find tariffs for individual non-residents on public pages. What exists:

BankServiceAmountEffective from
ArdshinbankAccount opening (non-resident legal entities and sole proprietors)AMD 100,00015.01.2026
ArdshinbankAnnual account maintenance (non-resident legal entities and sole proprietors)AMD 10,00015.01.2026
ArdshinbankMinimum balancenot required15.01.2026
ArdshinbankStatement for a period up to one monthAMD 015.01.2026

This is a tariff for legal entities and sole proprietors, do not transfer it to a personal account. Ameriabank has a section "Accounts for Non-Citizens of RA", but its content did not load when we checked. Inecobank's non-resident page returned an access error. We do not give data on them.

Russian citizens: what is known

  • IDBank's and Evocabank's published terms do not list citizenship as a restriction. But banks check the source of income and may refuse.
  • What exactly Armenian banks do with Russian cards and transfers from sanctioned banks we did not verify from primary sources. That is a separate topic: banks and transfers from Russia.
  • Banks may ask for information on tax residency. We did not confirm regulators' requirements to banks from a primary source.

Step by step

  1. Decide which "category" you fit: residence permit, property, sole proprietorship, deposit, employment contract.
  2. Collect your passport, proof of income and the bank's questionnaire. Ask the bank whether translation of documents is needed.
  3. Send the application to the stated e-mail or through the app.
  4. Wait for the decision. IDBank: 72 hours.
  5. If a visit is needed, book a branch appointment.
  6. If the bank refuses, ask which document was missing and apply to another bank with its terms in mind.

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Armenia without a residence permit?
There is no single ban, the bank decides. IDBank's leaflet asks for a residence permit or ownership of housing in Armenia. For remote opening Evocabank asks for property, sole proprietor status, a share in a company or a deposit. Without these your chances are lower.
Do I need a social number for a bank account in Armenia?
The published terms of IDBank and Evocabank do not list a social number among the documents. For a tax number a social number is needed, or a certificate that you do not have one. Confirm with the specific bank.
Can I open an account in Armenia remotely?
Yes, at some banks. Evocabank declares opening without a branch visit through its mobile app. At IDBank you send documents by e-mail, the decision comes within 72 hours, and after approval you need to book a branch visit.
How much does it cost to open an account as a non-resident?
There is no single figure for individuals, each bank has its own tariffs. For non-resident legal entities and sole proprietors Ardshinbank charges AMD 100,000 to open and AMD 10,000 a year for maintenance (from 15.01.2026).
What are the specifics for Russian citizens?
The banks' published terms do not distinguish by citizenship, but banks check the source of income and may refuse. For details on Russia see the article on banks and transfers from Russia.
